The details continue to come in regarding today's terrorism arrests in Britain and Pakistan. Check out this report from Sky News: Revealed: How Plotters Were Caught.
For days, the rumor mill had been circulating hints that a major plot was in the works, and that al Qaeda, or terrorists backed by Iran, might be plotting a severe attack on August 22nd. Iranian President Ahmadinejad has told the world that he would answer the world on August 22nd regarding the future of his country's nuclear plans. Was this his response? Was he planning to attack us, and essentially declare war on us and the entire world, by masterminding an attack on civilian aviation that would have killed several thousand people? Read this article by Joel Rosenberg for the NRO and see what you think.
However, al Qaeda had tried this in the past, and there is evidence that they may have been making practice runs. Remember Monday's London-to-Boston flight was recalled for security reasons? A concern over someone on the "No Fly" list? Was this a "dry-run?"
Oh, and here's a thought: could it be that we were setting up the terrorists while they were setting us up? Both president Bush and PM Tony Blair have been on vacation, amid much criticism from their opposing parties. Was this part of the plan to make us look unsuspecting? To give these assholes terrorists the impression that we didn't suspect anything? Clearly, both Bush and Blair have known about the plot-in-the-making for some time, since these people have been under surveillance for weeks. yet they choose to take a break anyway. Hmm.
We have been complacent for far too long. We grieved over 9/11 and then it was back to our "they-can't-get-us-here" attitudes. Well, guess what: they can, and they eventually will. An old SAS man once told a class I was in this: "They only have to get lucky once. We have to get lucky EVERY time."
This is prime example number one, kids: we need the NSA looking for these bastards; we need the Patriot Act; we need serious people leading this country at this difficult and dangerous time. We're in it deep, here. And the Kerry/Edwards/Kennedy mantra of "we-need-a-change-but-have-no-better-ideas" plan isn't going to cut it.
Iraq, North Korea, Venezuela, Syria, Hamas, Hezbollah all have one thing in common: Iran. Time to quit playing patty-cakes with these people and put a stop to this crap! If the rest of the world doesn't wanna help, then <insert your insult here>! You hear me, France? Are you listening Spain and Germany?
We all breathe a sigh of relief knowing that we have (apparently) dodged the biggest bullet since 9/11. But will any of us remember it in six months? A year? As happy as we are that this plot was foiled, will it ultimately hurt us? Several thousand deaths would have been a motivator that even Ted Kennedy and Michael Moore would have heard, and it obviously would have galvanized the nation, if not the world. It's morning, kids, and it's time to wake up!
Oh, Yeah, I almost forgot: Hey, thanks Britain! And you too, Pakistan (although we're still watching some of your people).

Listen, the fact is that we are still vulnerable. I highly suggest you all take proactive action and make sure you are prepared for any dangerous situation. By the way have you all seen the new Breath of Life emergency escape mask? The guys in my building got it and its awsome! It is pocket-size and weighs like an ounce and a half, and gives you time to escape to safety. Check it out at www.technonllc.com

Hmm, dinner in a bomb shelter, interesting. Wouldn't the restaurant be better?

You raised some pretty good questions. Was the NY fiasco of a few months ago a dry run for the plot that was thwarted? Possibly. Iran certainly has its hands in many pots, but I'm not sure al-Qaeda is one. Iran is Shiite. Saddam and I believe Osama Bin Laden, Zarqawi, et al, are Sunni.
The thing about these terrorists is that they not only want to kill us, they want to kill each other. There is no such thing as a united Islam. It is totally splintered and if we play our cards right, they can do some of our work for us by killing each other off.
And thank God for the domestic spying, eh??
